Cooking Measurements

This post is about cooking measurements and different types of spoons and cups i use for measurement. Measuring is very important when it comes to cooking.The success of a recipe and taste of food mainly depends on the measures of your ingredients.A few commercial measuring tools that are listed here will be worth investing for any ardent cook :)

Tablespoon
In the US and parts of Canada, a tablespoon,as an item of cutlery, is the largest type of spoon used for eating from a bowl. In the UK, Europe and most Commonwealth countries, a tablespoon is a type of large spoon usually used for serving.A United States tablespoon is approximately 14.8 mL, a United Kingdom tablespoon is exactly 15 mL, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 mL*.
Below are the measuring spoons i use for tablespoon measurements.The spoon sizes are 1 tablespoon, 1/2 tablespoon

 
Teaspoon
A teaspoon, as an item of cutlery, is a small spoon, suitable for stirring and sipping the contents of a cup of tea or coffee, or adding a portion of loose sugar to it. These spoons have bowls more or less oval in shape.*
I use the following 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon  measuring spoons .

(Measuring)Cup
A cup is a small open container used for drinking and carrying drinks.The measuring cup, an adaptation of a simple cup, is a standard tool in cooking that has been in use at least as far back as Roman times.
Below are the cups i use for measurement .The cooking measuring cup sizes  are 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup and 1/4 cup.
 
Measuring jug
Measuring jug is a kitchen utensil used primarily to measure the volume of liquid or bulk solid cooking ingredients such as flour and sugar, especially for volumes from about 50 mL (2 fl oz) upwards. The cup will usually have a scale marked in cups and fractions of a cup, and often with fluid measure and weight of a selection of dry foodstuffs*
I mainly use the jug for measuring liquid ingredient in large quantities.Below is my jug .


Below is a basic conversion table to assist you in cooking my recipes so that you can use the measuring tool available with you.

1/2 Cup 8 Tablespoon
1/4 Cup 4 Tablespoon
1 Tablespoon 3 Teaspoon
1/2 Tablespoon 1.5 Teaspoon


1 Cup 240 ml
1/2 Cup 120 ml
1/3 Cup 80 ml
1/4 Cup 60 ml
1 Tablespoon 15 ml
1/2 Tablespoon 7.5 ml
1 Teaspoon 5 ml
1/2 Teaspoon 2.5 ml
1/4 Teaspoon 1.25ml
